The Park %26 Dallas Landmarks in Legos at NorthPark Center

The first annual Dallas CityScape project reconstructs The Park and downtown's most recognizable landmarks from Legos - all for a great cause! Adults and children alike are sure to be awed by the size and artistry of each building. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 each for children with proceeds benefiting the East Dallas Community School.

This interactive exhibit is fun for all ages and definitely worth checking out. Who doesn't love Legos?! You can marvel at the artist%26#8217;s architectural ingenuity, celebrate Dallas%26#8217; transforming skyline and check out The Park%26#8217;s newest scale model %26#8211; complete with Jedi knights! Plus, kids (and kids-at-heart) are invited to create their own buildings in the Kids%26#8217; Construction Zone.

More importantly, all proceeds go to a great cause - the East Dallas Community School, which provides early education to diverse groups of children from low income families. The exhibit is located on the second level next to Barney%26#8217;s New York and will be open during regular mall hours through August 1st.

St. Paul Ramp Opens Ahead of Schedule

Great news! Our contractor Archer Western expected the temporary exit ramp to open the first week in July; however, they were able to finish up on Friday and open on Saturday afternoon. The ramp is not ready for trucks just yet. Archer Western will build the permanent configuration once construction is a little further along. Stay tuned%26#8230;

Museum Tower Breaks Ground

Over 200 people were on hand for the ground-breaking of The Park%26#8217;s newest neighbor, Museum Tower. Local dignitaries, project developers and representatives of Dallas' finest %26#8211; the men and women of the Dallas Police and Fire Departments - were on hand to get the dirt flying on the $200 million skyscraper.

"The Dallas and Texas economies are leading the national economic recovery; $1.5 billion of cultural infrastructure is either complete or under construction in our immediate neighborhood, transforming the neighborhood into a world class urban district," says Developer John Sughrue. "The greater the number of residential offerings in downtown Dallas the more vibrant the city will become."

The first residents of Museum Tower are due to move in about the same time the Park and the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge are completed in 2012. The landscape of Dallas is changing, and our beautiful skyline is becoming even more spectacular!

Cowboy Stadium doubles as an art gallery?

Sally Warren and Linda Owen took to the field on Saturday for an Art %26amp; Architecture tour of Cowboys Stadium led by The Park's neighbor, Charles Wylie, the Lupe Murchison Curator of Contemporary Art for the Dallas Museum of Art. The collection of contemporary art consists of 19 commissioned and original works of art. Charlie, who served on the Arts Council for the Cowboy Stadium, is rightfully proud of The Art Program%26#8217;s ability to connect new audiences to art. Sally, no stranger to contemporary art, holds an MFA from the Meadows School of the Arts at SMU, and her husband, Jeff Jackson, is a Park trustee.

Celebrate Spring Time at Dallas Blooms!

Our friends over at the Dallas Arboretum are celebrating the 26th anniversary of Dallas Blooms, the largest (and most stunning) floral festival in the south. Over sixty acres of beautifully landscaped gardens showcase some 500,000 spring-blooming bulbs. This year a 12%26#8217; tall Ferdinand the Bull topiary will delight guests, bringing the classic children%26#8217;s tale to life. Ferdinand will be %26#8220;smelling the flowers%26#8221; accompanied by a honey bee topiary amongst a bed of blooming spring flowers. Live music, photography, and arts and crafts round out the festival.

Easter is the perfect occasion to celebrate and admire one of the most spectacular floral displays. What%26#8217;s more? The cherry blossom trees are in bloom %26#8211; but only for about a week. Grab your camera and experience this extraordinary sight while it lasts.

I just heard some wonderful news%26#8230; Our dear friend, Willis Winters, is being honored at the 11th Annual Preservation Achievement Awards! Save the date! The awards help Preservation Dallas to continue their efforts in the education of and advocacy for the conservation of Dallas%26#8217; historic resources.%26nbsp; Willis has long been an advocate for the conservation and enhancement of Dallas%26#8217; historic buildings and neighborhoods. His untiring enthusiasm and invaluable support for The Park %26nbsp;has been pivotal throughout the entire planning and design process. The Roaming Gnome visits The Park!

The Dallas Center for Architecture%26#8217;s, Greg Brown, won a week with Travelocity.com%26#8217;s Roaming Gnome by posting, "Gnome me...he hasn't even met me!" Greg and DCFA friends gave him a VIP tour of Dallas%26#8217; must-see spots and chronicled their travels on Facebook. While in town, they roamed the city and snapped photos of all the great architecture North Dallas offers. After meeting with DCFA neighbors, the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation, Mr. R. Gnome insisted on a special tour of The Park%26#8217;s site. The well-traveled gnome was so impressed with The Park%26#8217;s progress that he already booked a trip to Dallas once The Park is complete. Thank you Greg for introducing us - we love our new friend!

Park friends the Meadows Foundation%26#8217;s Linda Evans, and Chase Bank%26#8217;s Michelle Thomas and Elaine Agather saw yesterday%26#8217;s beautiful spring morning as an opportunity for a mini photo shoot with the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation. Hello, Friends of the Park!

My name is Micaela and I am the thrilled to introduce myself as the newest member of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation team. Originally from Boston, I moved to the Big D after college and it was love at first sight. After only a few months here, I heard about The Park and knew I had made the right choice - Dallas is the place to be! I am thrilled to be a part of The Park Foundation, a team that is creating Common Ground (out of thin air!) for Dallasites to enjoy.

With all of the progress being made on The Park and everything going on in and around Dallas, there is plenty to share and discuss. I%26#8217;ll bring news on The Park, our Capital Campaign, new things in the neighborhood, construction updates and more.

So, Dallasites %26amp; future Park Patrons, in my first blog post I ask you what makes a city great?A park of course! All great cities have great parks and now it%26#8217;s our turn to create one of our own! I hope this project will spark the same sense of pride and excitement for you as it has for me. If you haven%26#8217;t heard the great news, Chase gave The Park a $3 million gift to the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation on February 1st %26#8211; a gift so exciting that JPMorgan Chase %26amp; Co. CEO, Jamie Dimon, was front and center to personally present this very generous contribution. Mayor Tom Leppert, members of city council, and scores of The Park%26#8217;s friends and neighbors attended the press conference to share in our excitement as we presented Jamie Dimon with an honorary %26#8220;key%26#8221; to The Park. We were thrilled to unveil the newly named Chase Promenade, the crescent-shaped tree-lined walkway that will span the length of The Park. This incredibly kind donation is the lead gift in the final phase of our $30 million capital campaign.

A huge THANK YOU to JP Morgan Chase, for your generosity, leadership and commitment to the City of Dallas. And a special thanks to Chairman of Chase in Dallas, Elaine Agather, whose commitment to our city was a driving force behind the donation. Update on the Waterfall on Woodall Rodgers Fwy

Atmos and Mastec have been working on upgrading a gas line on the corner of Olive and McKinney. They exposed a water line which began leaking and then exploded. The Park's contractor, Archer Western is monitoring and draining where they can, but the water has created quite a mess on Woodall Rodgers Fwy and the frontage road. Archer Western will continue assessing the issue and draining the freeway.

As of 6:15pm: Water main is turned off and repairs are derway.

The tin man famously had no heart. Neither did Dallas, if you think about it. Before October%26#8217;s opening of the AT%26amp;T Performing Arts Center, where would you have put it?

I know where to put it now. Woodall Rodgers Park, when it opens in 2011, will reorient our 150-year-old conception of downtown. I don%26#8217;t mean only spatially, although the Arts District has already tugged development northward. I mean spiritually.

Arts District and TX DOT Improve St. Paul Turn

The Arts District and TX DOT have been working together to improve mobility in the area during construction of The Park. One recent improvement of note: The %26#8220;No Left Turn%26#8221; sign at the corner of St. Paul and Woodall Rodgers frontage road has been removed.%26nbsp; The city will paint new marking to designate that traffic in the left lane can turn left or go straight.%26nbsp; This should assist with DMA cut-through traffic.
